ADEME works on behalf of every element of society :
- Local and regional authorities :
ADEME is the preferred agency for those local and regional authorities that wish to implement energy management and environmental protection projects effectively. It provides local assistance with the support of its regional offices, and helps authorities in the decision-making process by providing studies that enable projects to be defined, optimized and assessed, awareness-raising initiatives, training, and communications. It also funds exemplary operations and shares the results of programmes conducted at national level with local and regional authorities. - Companies :
Companies are increasingly urged to take environmental and energy concerns into consideration. ADEME provides support in various areas: limiting and optimizing waste, improving energy efficiency, reducing atmospheric emissions, managing contaminated soils and implementing environmental management systems. In addition to R&D funding, ADEME provides technical and methodological aid for the implementation of projects, decision-support assistance and investment guidance. - The government :
To establish credibility, France’s National Strategy for Sustainable Development (SNDD) requires the government to set the example. The latter must monitor the economic, social and environmental impact of its actions and integrate sustainable development into its public policies and day-to-day procedures. ADEME is also home to the resource centre for the SNDD’s programme, “The State Sets the Example”, and facilitates the adoption of ecologically responsible practices in all areas (purchasing policies, waste management, energy management, mobility and so on) by circulating information, promoting the sharing of experience, training government agents, developing practical tools and more. - The general public :
The agency has a role to play in keeping the general public informed on all issues related to sustainable development. ADEME publishes and circulates informational brochures, organizes communications campaigns, devises educational materials and is developing a network of energy info sites (Espaces Info »Energies) to provide citizens with information and practical advice at the local level.
