Name :   French Environment and Energy Management Agency

Status  :   public agency under the joint authority of the Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy and the Ministry for Higher Education and Research.

Mission :   encouraging, supervising, coordinating, facilitating and undertaking operations with the aim of protecting the environment and managing energy.

Priority areas :   energy, air, noise, transport, waste, polluted soil and sites, and environmental management.

Staff :   820 employees (including 359 engineers).

Organization :   three central departments in Angers (49), Paris (75) and Valbonne (06); 26 regional branches, three representative offices in France’s overseas territories and one representative office in Brussels.

2009 budget :   €638 million (a €557-million action budget and an operating budget of €81 million).

ADEME publishes a newsletter aimed at companies and local and regional authorities. Each edition features the latest news in all the agency’s areas of involvement plus an in-depth report on a specific topic, in addition to discussion on current major issues, points of reference, practical information, and field reports that give readers the opportunity to read first-hand accounts from partners on exemplary initiatives.
